A Governess is a teacher and academic mentor to children in private households whereby they supplement or replace their school education. Our qualified French Governesses have a teaching background or have higher childcare education and a minimum of 3 years of professional childcare or teaching experience.
On commencement of employment, the Governess will tailor a suitable curriculum and external activities to meet the educational needs of the children and take responsibility for their social and cultural development. The role of a Governess is often confused with that of a Nanny, but while a nanny is hired to take care of the full range of daily care needs of the children under her care, the role of the Governess is exclusively based around educational needs and intellectual development.
Hiring a Governess makes it possible for parents to access a completely flexible and personalised education for their child. A Governess will educate children thoroughly in all areas of etiquette ensuring they are fully able to conduct themselves well and behave appropriately in all kinds of social situations and gatherings.
The specific duties and responsibilities of each position should be discussed during the interview process, confirmed upon the extension of a job offer and reaffirmed in a written work agreement. With regard to the salary of a French Governess, please note that each position is individually negotiated and depends on the calibre of the candidate, the number of children, family needs and location.
